Doug Carlson shares his story of his battle with pancreatic cancer below.
I have been battling pancreatic cancer since February of 2010. Shortly after my diagnosis, I underwent surgery with Dr. Howard Reber at UCLA. Now, I am being treated with pill-form chemotherapy to fight the cancer’s spread to the lining of my stomach—so far my tumors are responding well. The Hirshberg Foundation has supported me throughout my battle by providing opportunities and information to explore different treatment options, clinical trials, and patient and family support services.
Last October, the Hirshberg Foundation gave me the great honor of being the official starter for the LA Cancer Challenge 10K race. While last year’s event marked my first LA Cancer Challenge experience, it surely will not be my last.
My wife and I were so impressed by the event’s organization, warmth, and Halloween flair. But most of all, we were blown away by the sense of passion and purpose we felt as we watched thousands of LACC participants start their race for the cure.
You too can experience that sense of passion and purpose by joining me at the 15th Annual LA Cancer Challenge on October 28th. Take the Challenge today—sign up and race for the cure alongside the dedicated members of the LA Cancer Challenge community!
